Divergence Hunting with MACD: Beyond the Standard Signals

Hey folks,

Been spending a lot of time lately digging deeper into MACD divergence, specifically looking for those less obvious signals that often precede significant price moves. We all know about the standard bullish and bearish divergences on the MACD line itself, but I've found a lot more success by also paying close attention to the MACD histogram divergence.

Think about it: the histogram represents the difference between the MACD line and the signal line. When the price is making higher highs, but the histogram bars start getting smaller and shorter, it's a strong sign of weakening bullish momentum. This often happens before the MACD line itself shows a clear bearish divergence.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what I look for:

  • Bullish Signal: Price makes lower lows, but the histogram bars start to tick upwards or become less negative. This suggests selling pressure is easing.
  • Bearish Signal: Price makes higher highs, but the histogram bars start to shrink or become less positive. This indicates buying conviction is fading.

I usually combine this with other indicators like RSI or volume to confirm. For instance, if I see bearish histogram divergence on BTC and the RSI is also showing a bearish divergence or failing to break above a key resistance level, I'm much more inclined to consider a short position or tighten my stop-loss.

Anyone else incorporating histogram divergence into their MACD analysis? What are your experiences or any other advanced MACD tricks you use? Let's discuss!

Interesting take on the MACD histogram! I've been focusing more on the MACD line itself, but you've got me thinking. The histogram showing the rate of change between the MACD and signal line does make sense as a leading indicator.

Have you found any specific patterns or timeframes where histogram divergence tends to be more reliable than standard MACD line divergence? I'm curious to hear more about your success with it.
