Hey folks,
Been deep in the metaverse space lately, and I'm increasingly convinced that the real long-term value for NFTs in gaming isn't just about 'earning' tokens. It's about owning tangible, usable assets within these virtual worlds. We've seen a lot of hype around P2E models, and frankly, many have fizzled out or proven unsustainable. But what about the underlying NFTs themselves?
I'm talking about virtual land, unique character skins, powerful in-game equipment, or even decorative items that can be displayed or traded. These are the NFTs that, in my opinion, have more staying power. Think of it like this: even if a game's tokenomics collapse, if you own a prime piece of real estate in Decentraland or a rare sword in a blockchain RPG that's still playable, that NFT retains inherent value based on its utility and scarcity within that persistent world.
Here are a few things I'm looking for when evaluating these kinds of NFTs:
- Persistence and Interoperability: Can my NFT be used across different games or metaverses? Or at least, does it hold value within a game that's built to last?
- True Utility: Does owning this NFT grant me advantages, access, or unique experiences within the game/metaverse? Is it more than just a cosmetic?
- Scarcity and Demand: How rare is the NFT? Is there a genuine community or player base that desires it?
- Developer Commitment: Is the project team actively developing and updating the game/metaverse, ensuring the NFT's utility remains relevant?
I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Are you focusing on NFT utility beyond just the P2E aspect? What are some projects you're watching where the NFTs themselves seem to be the main draw, regardless of the immediate token rewards?
